Week 4 EOC: Job Recruiters Turn to Facebook to Find Candidates

Finding new employees through Facebook is interesting. I do not believe it is the most efficient way to find new candidates for companies, but the statistics of the article says otherwise. The way I see it is that it does make sense to use this method to find new employees to save some money on job boards. It is interesting that recruiters would rather look at Facebook profiles over LinkedIn since LinkedIn is very business oriented compared to Facebook. I feel that it would be more professional and efficient to use LinkedIn to find employees only because that website is truly for business. Using Facebook can be a pretty smart move though because everyone and their mothers are utilizing Facebook everyday. It is so common to use Facebook it is almost a must for every human being. Because of this, it is easy for companies to post a “now hiring” post and get comments easily. My manager actually uses Craig’s list to find new employees and I would rather her use Facebook than that website since Facebook is less sketchy. I do not think Craig’s list is a business oriented website to recruit new employees. The fact that it is a 50% success rate to find new employees via Facebook, which is not very good in my opinion, makes Facebook seem pretty inefficient to use for this task. I say if your company needs to cut down on spending on job boards or other recruiting services, to go on ahead and use Facebook for your company’s sake. If your company does not need to make cuts, I would use a more professional website like LinkedIn so you have a better chance and finding am employee who is serious about working for your company.
